The Magical Realm of Storytelling [Update]

In January we shared the start of our Storytelling Project across early years and childcare settings in Barking and Dagenham. Now two terms in, Ria Butler, who leads on this project, updates us on the journey so far.

At the mid-point of our storytelling project, it's a perfect time to reflect on the journey so far. Our focus on training nursery teachers to bring stories to life and foster a love of books in early years is yielding very positive results. Each session is an exploration into young imaginations, as nursery teachers in Barking and Dagenham delve into the magic of storytelling techniques.
With every workshop, we have witnessed the transformation of educators into captivating storytellers. From using expressive voices to incorporating interactive elements, they're honing their skills to captivate young minds. The project so far has been truly heartwarming and inspiring. One of the highlights has been witnessing the ripple effect of our training, as nursery teachers take on the mantle of Lead Storytellers  in each setting and then disseminate new found skills and techniques amongst their teams. We have seen children and staff eyes light up with the joy of books. It's a testament to the power of storytelling in igniting a lifelong passion for reading.
As we celebrate the halfway mark of our project, we're thrilled to present achievement certificates to our dedicated participants and nurseries. In this photograph you can see two happy storytelling practitioners from Playaway BLC, who completed our training programme last month.
Each certificate symbolises not only their commitment to professional growth but also their dedication to nurturing a love of stories in the next generation. Here's to many more chapters of inspiration and learning ahead!

Kimberley & Alison from Playaway BLC.

Congratulations to them both!

Ria will continue to visit early years and childcare settings in Barking and Dagenham after the Easter Break. This project is part of the Boathouse Studios Creative Outreach Programme supported by The Barking and Dagenham Early Years and Childcare Service.

Please do get in touch if you are interested in finding out more about how you can get involved with our storytelling programmes.

Happy Easter
