Job Description

Boathouse Studios: Assistant Drama Workshop Leaders 

The Boathouse Studios is a vibrant arts and events venue. We have received Arts Council funding to establish our children's drama club for 5-11 year olds starting in January 2025 and running through until 2026. The club will focus on fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration through weekly creative drama workshops and performance. We are delighted to be teaming up with Early Years Cocoon to deliver this programme in Barking and Dagenham. 

 

Freelance Role Overview

We are seeking three enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Drama Workshop Leaders to join our team for this exciting children’s drama project at our venue in Barking. The project will involve weekly two-hour drama sessions, designed to spark creativity and self-expression in local children. The ideal candidates will have experience working with young people and a passion for drama, helping to support  Ria Butler, the programme leader in delivering fun and engaging workshops and performances. 

 

Contract & Fee:

Duration: One two-hour session per week over a 10-week term.

Fee: £50 per session.

Training and planning session per term. £60

Location: The Boathouse Studios, Abbey Road, Barking. IG11 7BT

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Programme Leader in planning and delivering creative, age-appropriate drama workshops for children.

  • Help manage group dynamics, ensuring a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants.

  • Provide individual support to children as needed, encouraging their participation and confidence.

  • Participate in planning and feedback sessions to improve the quality of workshops.

 

Experience and Requirements

Essential:

  • A strong passion for working with children and an enthusiasm for drama as a tool for learning and self-expression.

  • Proven experience facilitating or assisting with children’s drama or creative workshops, ideally in a community or educational setting.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire young people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the lead facilitator and adapt to different group dynamics and individual needs.

  • Commitment to child-centered learning and inclusive behaviour management. 

  • Enhanced DBS check (fees including).

  • A background in drama, performing arts, or education.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working in community-focused projects that prioritise inclusivity and the development of children’s social and emotional skills.

  • Familiarity with creating child-centered, participatory, and interactive learning environments.
